Someone recently sent me this list of how great Presidents of the USA lead. This is good advice for all of us. Leadership like this is more important right now than it has been in a long time. It is easy to lead in good times and really hard in bad times. We are in bad times so right now is the time for everyone to step up and be your best at work and at home.
1. The courage to stay strong
- Withstand adversity and motivate others in the face of frustration
2. Self-confidence
- Surround yourself with people of diverse perspectives who can disagree with you without fear of retaliation
3. An ability to learn from errors
- Willing to acknowledge and learn from mistakes
4. A willingness to change
- Conditions change and Presidents/leaders must respond
5. Emotional intelligence
- Encourage their closest advisers to give their best and remain loyal
6. Self-control
- Manage their emotions and remain calm in the midst of trouble
7. A popular touch
- Intuitive awareness of public sentiment, a sense of when to wait and when to lead
8. A moral compass
- Strong leaders have the courage and integrity to follow their convictions when the risk of losing popular support is great
9. A capacity to relax
- Have fun, tell funny stories, laugh out loud
10. A gift for inspiring others
- Ability to communicate goals to the people and to educate and shape public opinion
I hope you all are doing OK managing and leading through these difficult times we are in….Lee
