You Know What To Do, Now What

Creating Disney Magic Episode 612

“Everything is hard until it becomes a habit.”

Knowledge has never been easier to find. We can read books, attend workshops, listen to podcasts, and watch experts share their best advice every day. Yet with all the information available, many people still struggle to make meaningful progress.

I’ve come to believe the problem isn’t a lack of knowledge. It’s a lack of execution.

Recently we had a World Class Customer Service workshop. Attendees were engaged and asking great questions. I watched some take pages of notes. You could see their excitement as new ideas connected with experiences from their own organizations.

I asked everyone a simple question. What are you going to do when you get home? That’s the moment that really matters.

I’ve attended countless seminars throughout my career. I’ve delivered hundreds more. One pattern never changes. People leave feeling motivated, but once they return to work, everyday responsibilities take over. Meetings fill the calendar. Emails pile up. The urgent replaces the important, and before long the ideas that seemed so valuable are forgotten.

Real growth requires discipline. Knowing what to do is only the beginning. Progress comes from making the difficult phone call, having the uncomfortable conversation, scheduling the doctor’s appointment, enrolling in the class, or finally addressing the problem you’ve been avoiding. Most of those actions take far less time than we imagine.

What makes them difficult isn’t the time. Those actions require courage.

Every difficult task completed creates momentum for the next one. Confidence grows because you begin proving something to yourself. Over time, those intentional choices become habits, and those habits shape your career, your relationships, and your future.

The next time you finish a book, attend a conference, or listen to a podcast, don’t ask yourself whether you learned something.

Ask yourself what you’re going to do with it.

Because learning changes your thinking.

Execution changes your life.
