Dealing with Stress

Creating Disney Magic Episode 607 Dealing with Stress Tim Dyck

“Anxiety grows when we avoid the hard things.”

A big mistake people make is assuming stress is simply something they have to live with. A certain amount of stress is normal. Responsivities create pressure. Family, finances, work, and relationships all demand energy and attention. The problem begins when that stress is not managed. It can quickly take over in every way, affecting your health, your attitude, your relationships, and your ability to function well.

Tim Dyck, owner of Best Culture Solutions, and I spent time talking about anxiety and the growing pressure many people are experiencing today. He openly shares his own experience with anxiety and explains how easy it is for people to dismiss the warning signs. Too many people believe feeling overwhelmed is simply part of modern life.

That mindset is one I experienced myself. Years ago, I reached a point where I needed professional help. Looking back, much of the anxiety I experienced came from problems I delayed dealing with. I put off difficult conversations and responsibilities piled up. My life became more reactive than intentional. Over time, that creates emotional and mental exhaustion.

One of the most important lessons I learned is that anxiety rarely improves when ignored. In fact, it usually becomes worse. Self-awareness matters so much. If your sleep changes, your focus disappears, or your attitude begins shifting, pay attention. Those are signs that something needs to be addressed.

Leaders also need to pay attention to the people around them. Employees do not suddenly become withdrawn, frustrated, or disengaged for no reason. Something changed. Strong leaders notice those changes early and create an environment where people feel safe enough to ask for help.

Managing stress does not mean you are eliminating challenges. And it’s not realistic to say you give up your responsibilities. It mean you learn how to manage your life before overwhelm begins managing you.
