When Times Get Tough

Very often real leaders are born during tough times.

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, TRUE LEADERS GET GOING!
(written by Zane Tankel, Chairman, Apple Metro Inc.)

Real leaders are born in tough times—times when it is difficult to hold things together—the family under stress through sickness or other trauma, the military in retreat, the business during a downturn, etc.

True leadership should transcend the social, professional and business environment. To use a military analogy, leaders surface in retreat not in the charge.  It is relatively easy to lead in the good times when all is going your way and “the world is a beautiful place.”  Stick around long enough and that will change.

A leader must be able to excite.  How?  With new ideas, both innovative and executable.  A leader must be able to motivate.  How?  With positive reinforcement, building on people’s strengths (looking for something good in someone) and maybe, most importantly, a leader must be able to breed loyalty.

Loyalty is bred not through fear but with compassion, empathy, and strength.  In the end, a leader does not necessarily have to be liked (although, it helps); but, rather, they must be respected.

Sometimes it helps to hear others talk about leadership when you get tired of hearing it from those around you. Have a good weekend everyone….Lee
