Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration for children on Halloween and for our elected officials in Washington. Children and our congress men and women go in costume from house to house, asking for votes and treats such as candy or with congress, money, with the question, “Trick or treat?” The word “trick” refers to a (mostly idle) “threat” to perform mischief on the homeowners or their property if no treat is given (raise your taxes or pass some new ubsurd law). With congress it is no idle threat. It is a promise. Congress men and women are very good at story telling and often get a treat using that trick. Tricking someone to get a treat (money and power) is not a very nice thing to do, but as usual they don’t seem to care too much about “we the people”. It seems to be just about getting the treats for themselves and delivering the tricks to us.
One good thing is coming on Tuesday and that is that our landscape will be free of all of those political signs that promise,” a whole new world if you just vote for me.”
By the way if you vote for me (write in)…I will improve education, lower taxes, give you a great healthcare plan and fix Social Security. I will also pull our troops out of all parts of the world by next weekend and put in place a fair tax system that does not punish those who work hard. In addition to that, I will have your treats sent to you next Halloween so you don’t have to go around asking for them. That is about all I can promise you, that I can fix in the next four years….No foolin, trust me
Be careful out there tonight on those dark scary streets and be careful of people offering extra treats…Happy Halloween….Lee
