A Few Important Issues

Hi Everyone…This blog post covers a few different issues:

ITEM #1

I am heading out to volunteer for Teresa Jacobs on 3/8 to assemble yard signs and to eat some good BBQ. If any of you would like to come on out, please do. This leader must be re-elected Mayor of Orange County and I am doing everything I can to ensure that happens. I would appreciate any of you that might be able to come out too. Teresa is by far the best candidate and has already been a force in Orange County in her first term. I have worked with her for years on getting important things done and she always comes through in keeping her promises.

ITEM # 3…Letter from a nurse that attended my speech to 7,000 nurses recently. She is Creating Magic now for her patients. This letter made my week. I am speaking to another 3,000 nurses shortly. Nurses are the real giving ones in our society just like our military, teachers, parents, first responders, firemen and non profit health and human service professionals. 

Hi Mr. Cockerell,

I listened to your presentation at Magnet Conference and was so excited by the leadership strategies I immediately bought your book on my Kindle  and read it on the flight home.  Then I needed to have it in my hand so I bought the actual book!

I instituted the practice in my unit at the hospital (unit for drug exposed babies) and saw immediate improvement in morale, employee participation in unit projects and passion for what we do.  I love my job and I wanted everyone who works here to love their job so that’s what I tried.

I was asked by administration to give a presentation about what I learned during the presentations of all participants in the Magnet meetings, so I did and I am sure there will be many rushing out to buy the book as everyone was asking me where to get it.

They make us use power point for every presentation(I know what you think about power point!)  and I did it but I didn’t really use it. I just clicked through!  It is hard to be passionate while using power point and power point really bores me.

I just wanted to thank you for your book that helps me see the areas I am really good in and then areas I need to work harder.  The day planner is not what I am good at but I am working on that!

I was the last presenter today and our Chief Nursing Officer did comment a lot about what I presented.  I was adamant unless you love what you do you will struggle with being a great leader. I always want our unit to be the very best….and I quote you a lot in trying to achieve that.
