I remember walking my hotel operation one day, and I must say that everything look great.
The reason that the property was clean and orderly and well maintained was that all of my fellow employees were paying attention.
When you see something wrong, don’t assume that someone else is taking care of it or has even seen it. Take the time to report things that need to be taken care of.
- Teach your teams that if they are in a restroom in a public space or behind the scenes and it does not look the way it should, then make sure that they call it in or let their leader know that it needs attention or take care of it themselves.
- Teach them that if they see something that needs painting or fixing, call it in. Don’t worry that it may have been reported by ten other employees because . . . maybe it has not.
With hundreds of your fellow employees using their thousands of eyes and thousands of ears, you can build and continue to live up to a reputation of excellence. Teach your employees that we are all in this together.
- If you see trash on the ground, pick it up.
- If you see a guest in need, help that person out.
Working together you have a powerful team. Teach everyone that if they see a fellow employee who needs assistance or help, jump in and lend a hand.
Working together you and your team can make a bigger difference than any one of you can alone!
You must be a great role model for this kind of teamwork. You must talk about it over and over so every employee understands your expectations.
Your customers will reward you if you can create this kind of environment where everyone cares and no one assumes…Lee
