“If you don’t ask, you don’t get. It’s that simple.”
I’ve seen it over and over. People miss out on great opportunities because they don’t speak up. It could have happened to Jody Maberry had he not just asked. One of the most important pieces of advice I can give: you need to ask for what you want.
A lot of people are hesitant to ask. Maybe they’re afraid of rejection, or they think they’re being selfish. But from what I’ve learned, most people say “no” to themselves before anyone else gets a chance. They don’t ask for a raise, they don’t ask to be considered for a job, and they don’t introduce themselves to someone who could change their career.
One of my favorite examples is when someone asks me how Jody and I started working together. My answer? He asked. That simple action turned into a meaningful partnership.
Asking doesn’t mean being pushy. It means being respectful, sincere, and clear about your intentions. There are many stories from my Disney days, where asking the right question opened new doors for people.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get. And if you do ask, even if it’s not the right time, you’ll be remembered when the right opportunity comes around.
My challenge to you this week: Ask for something. At work. At home. At your favorite coffee shop. You might be surprised at what happens. Then email Jody or me and tell us how it went. We love to hear the ways you’re creating magic.
